‘Freshly Laundered Smalls’: Part of ‘It Will All Come Out In The Wash’
This weekend at Ross Street Community Centre – Come and hear about the Cambridge Laundries. Who said women didn’t work in the past ?!
Freudian Slips have been investigating what working life was like for the women of the laundries. These ‘stories’ – and more- make up a delightful evening’s entertainment. We reckon there’s more to laundry than you think!
By the turn of the 20th century the laundry industry was the third largest employer of Cambridge women. The university, hospitals and hotels created a huge demand for the regular supply of clean linen. There is still a thriving commercial laundry presence in Cambridge today.
Saturday 29th March, Ross Street Community Centre, 5.30pm and 8.00pm
